Li-Ion Tamer

Energy Storage

After partnering with the U.S. Navy to improve the safety of lithium-ion battery installations onboard ships, Nexceris was confident their product Li-Ion Tamer® was ready to be introduced to the broader lithium-ion market. However, as demand increased for the materials needed to scale the product, the Li-Ion Tamer team realized it was time for a pivot. After promising meetings with Honeywell International identified a critical software component needed to secure a partnership, Nexceris called the team at BRITE Energy Innovators.

Tapping into BRITEnetwork’s in-house expertise the two organizations quickly turned around a capital raise to acquire the software component needed. In 2022, Nexceris formed their first partnership to provide Li-Ion Tamer technology to the electric vehicle market with Honeywell Safety and Process Solutions (SPS), joining Honeywell’s expertise in designing and manufacturing sensing products for automotive applications with the value of Li-Ion Tamer’s catastrophic battery detection system for the electric vehicle market.

Demand Flexibility Exchange

Utilities

For major power utility companies, the amount of power allocated to a specific consumer remains constant, no matter demand. The difference between allocation and actual usage of power leads to inefficiencies across the board. Although utility companies have the ability to reallocate power, the process is time consuming and often takes close to two years to complete. When Demand Flexibility Exchange (DFE) first joined the BRITEnetwork and enrolled in BRITEbase, the team at BRITE Energy Innovators knew pretty quickly they had developed something special.

DFE’s proprietary process simplifies the exchange of power between consumers and commercial property owners, enabling a more balanced distribution across multiple users. This leads to far better efficiency for the power utility company and decreased costs for consumers and commercial property owners. After completing just two weeks of the 12-week BRITEbase program, BRITE’s team facilitated an introduction to the innovation team at First Energy, who immediately recognized the value of DFE’s propriety process. First Energy established a regular cadence of meetings with DFE to explore safety protocols, and is considering inclusion in their 2024 Innovation programs to further develop the capabilities of DFE’s process.

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph

Mobility

The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph (CSJ) is dedicated to caring for our common home, including taking steps to strengthen, heal, and renew the face of Earth. With a commitment to sustainability that led the Congregation to being one of the first organizations to invest in bio-diesel buses and downsize their facilities to reduce their carbon footprint, the Congregation enthusiastically joined the BRITEnetwork to gain a better understanding of the role vehicle electrification will play in the future of sustainability.

They are utilizing the BRITEnetwork and the collective knowledge base of members to advance plans to invest in a fleet of electric vehicles to replace aging gas vehicles, alongside the Catholic Diocese. At first glance this may seem like an organization that doesn’t quite fit within a cleantech network, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. A member like the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph shows just how far-reaching the effects of vehicle electrification across the state and our nation has become. BRITE Energy Innovators is thrilled to work alongside the Congregation to help connect and empower this organization to achieve their sustainability goals.
