Join us for an exciting weekend dedicated to accelerating cleantech innovation.
Whether you’re studying engineering, business, or just passionate about sustainability, this event is your opportunity to collaborate, create, and launch solutions to address tomorrow’s energy challenges. You’ll be problem-solving with your team, consulting with with expert mentors, and pitching your ideas to a panel of industry leaders. You can expect:
- Ideation: Form teams, brainstorm solutions, then share your ideas.
- Building: Bring your idea to life through a rapid design thinking process.
- Mentorship: Receive guidance from experienced entrepreneurs.
- Validation: Put your ideas to the test with subject matter and industry experts.
- Pitch: Refine your presentation skills and present to win prizes.

Challenge Topics
Each team will be developing innovative solutions to real-world challenges provided by our partners and sponsors. Participants will bring their idea to life through the rapid design thinking process with guidance from industry pioneers and thought leaders.
Prizes
After the final presentations, two teams in each city will walk away from Startup Weekend with cash prizes provided by our sponsors. Every team will get the chance to take their idea even further with BRITE’s signature programs.

Most frequent questions and answers
Do I need entrepreneurial experience to join?
No experience necessary. When it comes to entrepreneurial experience, consider this event as an opportunity to "try it on for size" in a low-stakes environment. Our expert mentors will guide you along the way.
Do I have to be there in person?
The event will be held live and in person.
Can I enroll as a single person, or do I have to put together a team?
You should enroll individually, as teams will be formed at the event.
What resources/assistance is provided over the weekend?
You will receive hands-on mentoring from industry pioneers and thought leaders from regional universities, innovation centers, and guest mentors from NASA Glenn Research Center.
Can I participate in more than one challenge?
Each team will need to choose only one challenge to participate in after the challenge details are presented on opening day.
Do we have to work for three days straight?
There won’t be assigned homework, but teams are welcome to work offsite. Onsite, the agenda will mix learning and participation activities with breakout sessions for teams and mentoring.
Do I have to participate in all three days?
Full participation is required for competing teams in order to be eligible for prizes.
What should I bring to the event?
Personal effects, laptop or tablet, smart devices, notebooks, and anything else you'd usually bring to class. Dress for indoor and outdoor weather (bring a sweater or sweatshirt). The most important thing to bring is a creative spirit and your imagination!
