Adena Power’s MAKE IT Prize Win Fuels Clean Energy Manufacturing in the Midwest

Make It Prize Facilities Track

“Adena Power is thrilled to announce a major milestone in our journey towards a sustainable energy future. We have been selected to move on to Phase 2 of the Facilities Track of the U.S. Department of Energy’s MAKE IT Prize, a prestigious initiative aimed at promoting domestic manufacturing of critical energy technology components.

In recognition of our ambitious plans to establish a manufacturing facility for long-duration sodium batteries in Ohio, we have been awarded a $500,000 grant. This significant investment will catalyze our strategy to bring manufacturing jobs to the Midwest, a region poised to be at the forefront of the clean energy transition.

Our selection for the MAKE IT Prize is a testament to our vision of powering a clean energy transition through sustainable, secure U.S. supply chains and manufacturing. As the energy sector rapidly evolves to meet the growing demand for clean energy, it is crucial to invest in the domestic manufacturing base and strengthen the country’s energy supply chains.

During a recent panel discussion on Clean Energy Manufacturing in the Midwest hosted by mHUB in Chicago, we wholeheartedly agreed with the panelists’ assessment of the Midwest’s tremendous potential to lead the way in this transition. The region’s rich industrial heritage, skilled workforce, and strategic location make it an ideal hub for clean energy manufacturing.

The MAKE IT Prize, developed by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Technology Transitions in partnership with the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations, recognizes the importance of domestic manufacturing capabilities in maximizing the benefits of federal investments in climate and clean energy. Through two distinct tracks, the prize will award approximately $30 million to promote manufacturing activity at the regional level.

In Phase 1 of the Facilities Track, we successfully submitted a plan to establish a manufacturing facility for our long-duration energy storage technology. As one of the winning teams, we have been awarded $500,000 and can now compete in Phase 2: Shovel-Ready, where we will demonstrate our readiness for construction, including proof of location, permits, financing, and community engagement.

Adena Power is committed to leveraging this opportunity to drive economic development and job creation in the Midwest while contributing to the region’s clean energy future. We are excited to collaborate with local stakeholders, leverage the region’s industrial expertise, and establish a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that will produce cutting-edge energy storage solutions.

Our MAKE IT Prize win is a significant step towards realizing our vision of a sustainable, resilient, and secure energy future powered by American innovation and manufacturing excellence. We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress as we compete in Phase 2 and bring our plans to fruition.”
